Our family recently had the opportunity to serve at Midwest Food Bank. We were amazed at the many ways they help not only the local community, but are always on stand-by ready for disaster relief efforts and getting food-filled relief boxes to those in need within 24 hours. Tonight the volunteers packed snack packs and hope packs. Every Friday throughout the school year qualifying children receive a pack of shelf-stable food which helps to ensure that children arrive at school on Monday morning ready to learn. It’s estimated that 1 in 6 children in the United States is living in a food-insecure household. That means that 17 million children are struggling with hunger and some of those children are right here in our community.

We learned with recent storms that hit the Phoenix area there were some neighborhoods that lost power, and Midwest Food Bank worked to provide ready-to-eat meals to them since they were unable to cook. You never know when a disaster will strike and Midwest Food Bank is ready to help at a moments notice. My heart is filled with love seeing this organization fill the needs of the community and was grateful that our family got to participate in just a tiny part of that. Our group packed over 2500 packs in just 1 short hour of service. Thanks to Cultivate Goodness for putting this opportunity on your site to bring an awareness of what is needed within our community and ways we can serve. You can also find ways to serve within your local community on JustServe.org. It’s ever been so easy too volunteer and find what works for you and your family.
