Small businesses are the epitome of the American Dream… working hard for something you believe in or are passionate about, building a business, and creating strength with the community around you. In Arizona, small businesses with less than 500 employees employ over 40% of the state! That is 1 million employees, counting on the community to shop small, so that they may continue to be employed and work towards their own American Dream. After months of to-go only, online shopping only, or perhaps even store closures, it is more important than ever to shop small, and shop local.
We cannot thank YOU, our customers & community, enough for your support for the last 25 years. Being a family-owned small business can be just as challenging as it is rewarding, so we wanted to take a moment to shout out some of OUR favorite small businesses to patron here in the Valley of the Sun! We hope you will think of them for your future needs and shopping fixes.
Georganne Bryant opened Frances Boutique (named after her grandmother) in midtown Phoenix in 2006. The shop immediately bares a warm welcome, and is quaintly decorated with an assortment of items, from clothing and jewelry, to a collection of local artisan’s wares & gifts.
Here’s what Georganne had to say about being a small business: “Being a small business owner is challenging and rewarding all at the same time. I love seeing people’s reactions when they find something special that really speaks to them in the shop. I have always wanted my customers to feel that coming into Frances is a special experience. I love seeing the small business community grow in the Phoenix area as well as seeing the support for small businesses grow right along with it. There really were not many small retailers in the area when we opened 14 years ago. The Phoenix community has really shown up for small businesses and I think people are starting to see the value in shopping small and how much it can benefit a community to do so.”
Midas- on Main St between Lindsay & Val Vista, in Mesa, AZ
Michael Jaskowiak (the late father of our Large Event Coordinator, Michaela Jaskowiak) was the “Mr. Fix It” that his friends and family turned to, managing auto repair shops around the valley. He put in the elbow grease for many years, working hard for him and his family to have a business of their own. In 2009, Michael & his wife Shannon purchased the Midas franchise location on 2964 E Main St, Mesa, AZ 85213. Passionate about historic vehicles and sweet rides, Michael loyally serviced the community’s cars until October 2019, when his battle with throat cancer left him unable to work. Since then, Chris Schwartz, a neighbor and former employee, has been running the shop and getting customers back on the road. With businesses in the valley opening back up and employees getting back to their commutes, cars are in need of their tune up! The lull in customers during this time has been extremely hard on their auto business, and the Jaskowiak family would greatly appreciate you choosing their Midas shop for your auto tune-ups and repairs.
Bubbles of Joy
Bubbles of Joy is a local balloon and party supply store, family-owned & operated by Andrew Faber. In the valley since 1979, they have been providing a vast selection of balloons and accessories with quality and friendly service. As You Wish utilizes their helium services in our Arizona studios, bringing our balloon bouquets for birthday parties up a notch! Liz & Michaela shopped at Bubbles of Joy to hand-pick colors and sizes of balloons, and then assembled a balloon arch at our Grand Opening of the Norterra Studio in January 2019. Thanks to their service and support, we were able to make the event extra ~magical~. Mention As You Wish to Bubbles of Joy on your next purchase to receive 10% off!

One of our favorite plant shops in the valley! They are equipped with plants, accessories, supplies, and amazing customer service. Pueblo started from a desire to see more green life in Phoenix. As a city located in the wettest desert on the planet, yet still a desert, it is sometimes hard to realize all the potential Phoenix has to grow with. All it takes is a different view. Originally started in 2015 as a small farmers market booth, Pueblo has grown into a one of a kind garden oasis in the desert. Our primary focus is on houseplants and tropicals as the best way to bring greenery into your home, but we have a soft spot for all plants from the desert and around the world. One of our consistent goals for each customer is to make sure they leave the store with a strong connection to their new plants whether that be simple care facts (fine-tuned to keeping your plants alive in Phoenix) or some hidden insight into the plant’s biology or horticultural history. We hope that everyone who comes in can take a big breath of fresh air, learn something new, and simply admire the plants.
