Spring is here! Well in Arizona Summer is almost here! But right now is that magic time when the weather is not too hot and not too cold and it is perfect for enjoying meals outside. With the desert in full bloom and bright colors all around us why not have our dishes burst with color too!
These dishes were the gift that keeps on giving for me! My mom loves bright colors, so for her birthday one year, I painted a set of 4 dinner plates. Christmas came next with the matching mugs, then yep -Mother’s Day with matching bowls, I even threw Father’s Day in there too. As evidenced below – I painted them a very long time ago! But they have lasted through the years and guests always ask my mom where she got here unique dishes!
What I absolutely love about these dishes is the simplicity! I AM NOT AN ARTIST – yet I was able to make some pretty cute dishes with just stripes and dots and the right color combinations.
The trick is sticking to the same colors through out. I had my 4 colors and then painted all the salad plates with a solid rim (just 3 solid coats of paint, letting it dry in between each coat) and then accented with the white puffy paint dots – what could be easier! I continued to use the white puffy paint as an accent throughout the project.
The rest is up to you. Play with different combinations of dots and stripes. Keep it simple and basic and you will have happiest dish set in the neighborhood! 🙂
